Heritage
These are not on a list of things for sale.
Curating time is not a chronology of things for sale. The house looks for structures that will not occur twice: a jade that should not be reset, an opal colour too thin to grind, a zone of corundum that heat would erase. Most of them never become a collection. They stay so the atelier remembers what cannot be made again.
A closed viewing happens inside the Da’an side door, for one party. No opening, no public wall text. Once, the table held only a green the infrared had sent back, and nothing was sold. The hour exists so the eye remembers a refusal, not so the house can collect an exhibition biography. A museum that did not happen is not written.
If an institution writes about a loan, we speak of conditions and insurance, not of exposure. The archive may be absent from public rooms. Absence is not a lack of history. History here is a diary that is not published, and the stones that decided not to leave.
