Treatments

Treatment is not one word. Heating corundum, oiling emerald, polymer-filling jadeite, irradiating or HPHT-processing diamond, dyeing pearl: acceptance differs. Traditional heat and light oil are more tolerated because they are old and usually detectable. Filling, dye and glass-filling must be named. They cannot hide inside the tone of the word natural.

Read the report literally. No indications of heating means the laboratory did not see evidence. It is not a theological absolute. Heat means heat. Filler and residue need a degree. Minor oil in emerald is not the same sentence as significant resin. If a report is vague, the salon translates the vagueness. It does not cover it with a vaguer adjective.

Price already contains an opinion about treatment. Unheated rarity shows in the figure and in the risk: unheated stones often keep more inclusions. We do not say unheated is automatically more beautiful. Beauty is colour and proportion. Unheated is another piece of information. Both must be present.

YIJING writes treatment in the specification, not in the last footnote. If an indicative line later disagrees with a report, the report and the object prevail. That disclaimer is not an escape. It admits that a photograph and a table are not the stone.

Another treatment happens after setting: repolish, a replaced prong, a new base. It does not change the heating history of the stone, but it changes the integrity of the object. If an old mount is replaced, the service page asks that it be written down first. It is here because clients often ask only about the stone, not whether the metal has been moved.
